Trim URL to Domain

Paste full URLs and the trimmer returns only the hostname of each, dropping the protocol, the www prefix, paths and query strings. Ideal for building a domain list from a crawl export.

Step by step

  1. Paste one URL per line. Invalid entries are skipped.
  2. Click Trim to Domain.
  3. Check the counters for input URLs and output domains.
  4. Copy the domain list into your dedupe, WHOIS or DNS workflow.

Tips for better results

  • Feed the result into Remove Duplicate Entries — many URLs usually collapse into a handful of domains.
  • This helper strips the www prefix for consistency. Use Trim URL to Root when you need the exact host visitors type.
  • Enrich the list with the Bulk Nameserver Extractor or Whois Scraper report.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between a domain and a root URL?

The domain is the hostname only, for example example.com. The root keeps the scheme as well, for example https://example.com. This tool returns the hostname.

Are subdomains kept?

Yes. blog.example.com stays as blog.example.com; only a leading www. is removed.

Why is one of my URLs missing from the output?

Entries that are not valid URLs are skipped. Add a scheme such as https:// so every line parses.
